What is ArgForge?ArgForge nedir?
ArgForge is a computational argumentation interface based on the ASPIC+ framework for structured argumentation. It lets you examine the arguments that support or oppose a claim. Once premises, rules, preferences and conflicts are defined, it helps you see how arguments are built, which attacks succeed, and why claims are accepted under the settings you have chosen.
In ArgForge you can write your own theory, explore the ready-made examples, or generate a theory with the features you choose. You can see how arguments are built, how they attack one another and which attacks succeed. The summaries of claim statuses and the explanations help you understand the results of the settings you have chosen.
What happens when a theory is evaluated?Bir kuram değerlendirilirken neler olur?
Each evaluation consists of six steps:Her değerlendirme altı adımdan oluşur:
- The theory is read. Syntax and names are checked. If you wish, the contrapositives of strict rules are added.Kuram okunur. Yazım kuralları ve adlar denetlenir. İsterseniz katı kuralların ters yönlü hâlleri de eklenir.
- Arguments are built. Every way of reaching a conclusion from the premises through the rules is a separate argument.Argümanlar kurulur. Öncüllerden başlayıp kurallar üzerinden bir sonuca varan her yol ayrı bir argümandır.
- Attacks are found. An argument can attack another one at a premise, at a conclusion it draws, or at a rule it uses.
- Preferences come in. In attacks that depend on preferences, the attack fails when the attacker is the weaker side. Attacks that succeed are called defeats.Tercihler devreye girer. Tercihe bağlı saldırılarda saldıran taraf daha zayıfsa saldırı başarısız olur. Başarılı saldırılara yenilgi denir.
- A semantics is applied. The sets of arguments that can be accepted together, the extensions, are found.Bir semantik uygulanır. Birlikte kabul edilebilecek argüman kümeleri, yani kapsamlar bulunur.
- Claims are reported. Each claim is marked justified, defensible, overruled or undecided, and the reason is explained.İddialar raporlanır.
The theoretical foundations of ArgForgeArgForge'un kuramsal temelleri
Abstract argumentation. In Dung's (1995) framework, arguments are shown as nodes and attacks as directed arrows. Different semantics determine which sets of arguments can be accepted together. The grounded, complete, preferred and stable semantics come from this framework. In ArgForge these semantics are computed not over all attacks but over the successful ones.
Structured argumentation with ASPIC+. ASPIC+ makes explicit which premises and inference rules an argument relies on. It distinguishes attacks on premises, on conclusions reached by defeasible rules, and on the defeasible rules themselves. For attacks where preferences matter, whether the attack succeeds is decided by those preferences. Following the corrected definitions in the work of Modgil and Prakken, ArgForge uses the last-link and weakest-link argument orderings together with the elitist and democratic set orderings.ASPIC+ ile yapılandırılmış argümantasyon.
Rationality postulates. Caminada and Amgoud (2007) propose conditions for evaluating argumentation systems, such as consistency and closure under strict rules. Closure means that the accepted conclusions also include what the strict rules require. ASPIC+ satisfies these postulates when the theory and the argument preferences meet certain conditions.
Argument scores. ArgForge uses the h-categorizer measure of Besnard and Hunter (2001) to compute scores over the graph of successful attacks. These scores offer an additional perspective for examining the graph.
